OUR FATHER'S FESTIVALTM !2009 Feast of Sukkot / Tabernacles! HOW Can I Help?
Descriptions of Volunteers Service and Recreation Activities
Festival Planning

It takes teamwork as each does his part in unison and shares the pulling.
Mat 23:11 "But he that is greatest among you shall be your servant."
Mat 24:46 "Blessed is that servant, whom his lord when he come shall find so doing."
Yes–We Need Your Help!
Activities will be provided depending on the interest shown by others on the Pre-Registration form, not only to participate, but to lead and organize. Many times, others expect someone else is going to make the effort to provide for them. The number of organized Festival activities we have will depend on everyone's willingness to volunteer!
Most all who attend (except for the aged, very young, or handicapped) are requested and expected to volunteer. Helping out at the Festival makes the Festival enjoyable for everyone! Because Our Father's Festival is not a church, we depend on people like you to make it happen! There are a number of service opportunities available. Even if you don't think you're qualified in a certain area, go ahead and volunteer and we'll show you how it’s done!
What makes our site even more different from many others? You have the opportunity and responsibility to lead and organize activities with maximum flexibility on your part to make the activity happen and a success. Without your assistance, these activities may not happen. The firstfruits are being prepared, in part, through their examples. As many know, the saints, as firstfruits, will rule as kings and priest’s in the Kingdom (Rev 5:10). Leaders “do” by example. You are given the opportunity to "do”—-to learn, practice and demonstrate talents and interpersonal leadship skills in service to others—now. We are here to help each other grow!
Teenagers also have an important role at the Festival; so we have included you in the Volunteer list to encourage you to participate and gain the interpersonal skills and experience by serving and working with other adults and age groups.
Descriptions of these volunteer responsibilities are below.
DESCRIPTIONS of VOLUNTEER SERVICE & RECREATION ACTIVITIES
Lend a hand to hitch-up and help pull.
Audio/Visual/Computer. Are you audio/visual/computer savvy to be a coordinator? We need one! .Plus we also need others to assist. If you can help, but are not familiar with the equipment, we can show you how it’s done! Helping out with the song services and the PowerPoint® Presentations are a couple of the other responsibilities. Please let us know if you are experienced or familiar with PowerPoint® presentations.
Auditorium and Classroom Setup & Take Down. We will be setting up and taking down the chairs and tables several times during the Festival - both in the Dome (Pavilion) and in the classrooms. Your extra hands will surely help make this go fast!
Children’s Activities. We hope to have various classes for the children. Do you have an idea for a class you can teach? Let us know! One parent is requested to assist in at least one session.
Dancing. Do you know how to dance? Wish to share you knowledge and help teach others? We are seeking those 1) individuals who can work with young children, 2) a man or men who can teach and or possibly lead other men in dancing, 3) individuals who can lead group dancing during praise and worship without preset choreography and completely rely on the Holy Spirit for movements. Decorations. Banners, miniature lights, and other decorative items add a lot to the festive atmosphere. We need help putting them up, making them, and acquiring them.
Duplicating. We would like to make CD’s of each congregational seminar (the morning seminar) for sale. Do you have equipment we can use? Can you help make copies and print the labels?
Emergency: Anointing and Counseling. If you are an elder or have counseling experience, please state your qualifications in the comments section.
Emergency: Medical. Emergency medical services are located about 3.5 miles away at the regional hospital. It would be very helpful, however, to have a volunteer EMT, nurse practitioner, or Registered Nurse on-site.
Hayride. We need to have someone monitor the hayride and watch the youngin's from fallin' off and getting hurt, ensure everyone rides safety, and gets on and off OK.
Lost and Found. Responsibilities include making a place where found items can be taken to and writing an announcement to a facilitator when items are not being claimed.
Lulavim. Palms, willow, goodly tree branches, and lemons are needed. Lots of them! We need an organizer to coordinate finding a free location of these plant materials and organizing the people to cut them, bringing them to the festival site, setting up a few tables for each branch, providing string to tie them together, buy lemons, (we will reimburse you) and bring two large shallow steel or plastic containers to store them in water after the lulavs are made.
Photography/Videography. Do you have a digital camera or digital movie camera to take pictures of the various speakers and activities? Some will be used on the Festival website and other places as the need arises. Contact Mike at 928.717.2270
Potlucks. Table and chair set-up and take-down, food set-up, making tea, lemonade, and coffee, laying out the tablecloths, etc. are all needed. A lot of help is needed here—no experience necessary! You get to meet people! This gets done fast when helping hands are plentiful!
Registration and Information Table. We need people with smiles on their face and their heart to help at the Registration Table. It's a great job because you get to meet almost everyone to welcome them! Responsibilities include checking people in, taking in and calculating Registration Fees, assigning cabins, distributing name tags, distributing the Festival brochure, answering questions, preparing a U.S. map showing the home location of Festival attendees, and preparing an informational board on a tripod for local announcements, etc.
Please contact Mirandy at (480) 570.3800 or mirandy@cox.net
Safety and Security. We need men to insure the safety and security of the camp at night; for example, fire safety if there are fire conditions (because of drought), medical emergencies, helping others set up tents (when needed), advising others of camp rules, and to facilitate the cooperation of others. Please let us also know if you have specific training that would qualify you for this sensitive responsibility. Contact Nick at 928.713.4724
Shofar Blowing. If you have a shofar, any size, would upi like to participate in the blowing of the shofar at the Feast? The shofar is blown to call the congregation and start every morning service during the Feast. This may be done as a group or by individual depending on the interest shown.
Sing-a-Long. Selecting the songs, preparing sing-a-long booklets and making copies of them. Everyone enjoys a sing-along when camping out!
Singing Group. Instead of just one man, this year we hope to have a small singing group of men and women leading song services for four (4) of the Festival worship services. Contact Mike Bacon (928) 717.2270 or email him at azbluesky7@yahoo.com.
Speaking. This is one’s opportunity to speak on a subject, whether Scriptural, craft, health, nature, outdoors, etc. We ask that you present your qualifications (e.g. resume) in a written form, along with a paper outlining your topic and its content either by e-mail or by U.S. Mail as soon as possible. Do not be shy! The more information you give us enables us to better evaluate and choose the presentations.
Talent Show. Are you interested in showing your talent: sing, dance, tell a joke, play an instrument, do a skit, etc? Let us know and tell us your talent!
Teens. If you would like to work with the teens and/or have an idea for a teaching session that you would like to present – let us know! Teens…we also need you in assisting these sessions!
Torah Reading. An interactive reading of the book of Deuteronomy each morning during the Festival.
Usher. Men are needed to assist in directing people to open seats during congregational services and assisting those in need of physical or other assistance.
Web Site Design. We hope to take our web site to the next level. Do you have skills in web site design that can enable us to do this? Contact Mike at 928.717.2270
FESTIVAL PLANNING & ALTERNATIVE FESTIVAL SITES
Keep Focused. Plan Ahead. Don't Lose Sight of Your Goal !
Planning is an important ingredient in making your festival successful and enjoyable! Many are observing it for the first time. If you have decided to keep Our Father’s Festival, we have included the following key points for you to consider: (These are described in much greater detail at www.season-of-our-joy.com if you need extra help)
1. Prepare a budget. As in any vacation or trip from home, you need to prepare a budget. Housing, transportation and food are typically your most expensive items. Camping may be one way to balance and reduce your costs; however, if you do not have camping equipment, that cost will need to be factored in.
2. Budget breakers can be either or both of the following:
A. Time off from work to make the journey and/or
B. High transportation costs.
Do not give up!
If you are driving, consider sharing the travel costs by inviting other(s) to ride with you.
If that still does not pencil out for you–do consider another festival site closer to home–rather than not attend at all (See Alternative Festival Sites below). There is so much to learn and the fellowship experience is super! We know one’s desire and ability to rejoice will be enhanced when there are others to celebrate with together.
Alternative Festival Site
Should you not be able to attend Our Father’s Festival due to either, animals, budgetary, time, and/or travel constraints, we would encourage you to attend a Festival closer to your home. Although we are not formally affiliated with the following Festival site, we are informally affiliated through the common faith that we share in wishing to follow Our Father’s Word! They will be happy to welcome you to their Sukkot! So, you see, there are always options!

3. Request and get time off from work.
Many use and schedule their vacation time for the Festival. Of course it is best to ask for it as far advance as possible. When you have learned about the Festival late in the year; however, you may have either already used your vacation, or may have to ask for it on short notice. If you cannot attend because of time-off from work, make advance plans, now, to attend next year! Plan to celebrate the Festival at home the best you can. Internet services may be available from some Festival sites, and their may be fellowship opportunities with other believers in your local area who also cannot attend for whatever reason. Seek out believers.
4. Taking children out of school
A Student Handbook should address absences from school. Read it for its religious observances. A parent should be aware of the school’s policy and local laws which dictate children’s absence from school for religious reasons. The best course is to be accommodating, nice, and conciliatory. It probably would be wise not to call it a ‘Jewish’ holiday, otherwise one may have to explain why most Jewish people do not take their children out of school for these days. From what we have seen, it is usually not a problem getting the children out of school and it being an excused absence.
You may wish to obtain a letter from your Sabbath keeping fellowship / affiliation that states that your group or organization you observe the Biblical holy days. If you are not affiliated with any particular group, we have a 'generic' letter (courtesy of Season of Our Joy) that we'll be happy to provide explaining our position.
5. College students
College students face another particular dilemma. Unlike high school and elementary school students and employees, they are paying big bucks for more intensive classroom instruction and many more hours if the curriculum is in the design field and involves extensive ‘laboratory hours’–such as architecture.
It is best to make arrangements with your instructor as early as possible and get in-advance the assignments that will be missed. Unfortunately, I found myself and others have had to take homework to the Feast to keep up. Remember this: Yes, the Festival is a time of rejoicing, but work may be done on the non-high days. In short, my personal collegiate experience is to be respectful and to work hard with the knowledge that Our Father will look out for you when you follow Him!
